Are you hosting the whole family for the holidays? Here is our guide to entertaining while remaining zen!
First of all, there is no miracle recipe: the more we do it in advance, the less we impose a blowing finals sprint. What is more, we then leave room for maneuver so that the children can “help”… or at least participate to the extent of their means in the preparations. So where do you start?
1. Establish a mood
We visualize the dream atmosphere for our nest, the one that represents us as a family: are we of the “exploded decor” or “soft atmosphere” type? The holiday decoration will revolve around this image.

There is nothing like light to set the mood quickly, inexpensively. Candles placed out of the reach of children will create a warm environment, conducive to exchanges. As a secondary source of lighting in the middle of a period of celebration, we opt for small light garlands hung in several strategic places. The kitchen island thus illuminated will never have been so unifying!
The ambience is not confined to the four walls of our house either: why not take an interest in the views offered by the main windows of the house by embellishing, for example, the large pine tree in the front yard?
2. Plan the menu
With young children, life is easier by choosing a cocktail-style menu. After all, it is well known: children are always hungry… except at mealtimes! We can then chat and eat throughout the evening, without being confined to the kitchen.
This kind of meal is more favorable to the "potluck", where each guest brings his specialty.

3. Move the furniture
A family of four does not have the same needs as a large group of diners. For D-Day, it is therefore natural that we review the arrangement of the furniture in order to ventilate the premises. An object takes up space without contributing to the atmosphere? We put it aside.
When square footage is limited, long live the multifunctional! A sofa bed, for example, will allow guests to sleep comfortably instead of hitting the road late at night. We therefore prepare the living room space for a smooth transition once fatigue sets in. And let's go with some very festive second-hand bedding to give them a last smile before dark! We can also think of a spicy cinnamon soap in the bathroom next to the (thematic!) Towels that will be reserved for them.

Of course, we provide these same attentions if we have a guest room intended for them, little chocolates near the pillow in addition. If we have neither, we all stick together in the master bedroom, leaving the children's rooms to the guests, previously furnished and decorated.
4. Decorate strategically
A better thought-out space leaves more room for thematic decorations. Decorative elements don't have to be expensive or complicated to make an impact. For example, we can reuse the boxes we receive by the ton when shopping online and wrap them in our most beautiful holiday papers to decorate.

When there are children, the decoration can also be "functional", that is to say, entertain the little ones during the evening. One thinks in particular of a table covered with a large sheet of kraft paper on which children are free to draw figures with molds and colored pencils. We could also provide a Christmas tree built using all white cardboard that is affixed to the wall, as an invitation to draw your ornaments ...
Hosting well for the Holidays means offering a magical and friendly universe in which you can simply share a good time. In short, we favor small thoughts over large projects! We then maximize the pleasure, and we minimize the stress ...
